Xiaomi Smart Band 9 vs 9 Active vs 9 Pro: Which One Should You Buy?

Xiaomi Smart Band 9, Smart Band 9 Pro and Smart Band 9 Active side by side

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9, Smart Band 9 Active and Smart Band 9 Pro are three fitness trackers from Xiaomi's 2024 lineup, designed to monitor your activity and health and to make everyday life a little easier. Xiaomi has since released the Smart Band 10, and the Smart Band 11 launched in China in September 2026, but the 9 series is still widely available and often discounted, which makes it one of the best-value ways to start tracking your fitness. Here's how the three models differ and which one is right for you.

Features shared by the Smart Band 9, 9 Active and 9 Pro

All three models track the essentials: heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), steps, calories burned, stress and sleep quality. Each band is also water resistant to 5 ATM, so you can wear it in the pool or in the rain without worrying about damaging it.

Once a band is paired with your phone through the Mi Fitness app, it shows message and call notifications and other alerts right on your wrist. Battery life is another strength across the range: every model lasts several days longer than its predecessor, with Xiaomi quoting up to 18–21 days of typical use depending on the model.

What is the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 like?

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 is a slim, minimalist band with a 1.62-inch AMOLED display, a 60 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, twice that of the Smart Band 8. An ambient light sensor adjusts the brightness automatically, so the screen stays easy to read both indoors and in direct sunlight.

Despite its compact size, the display shows activity data and notifications clearly, which comes in handy when you use one of the more than 150 sports modes. At just 15.8 g without the strap, the band is comfortable enough to wear around the clock, even in bed, and Xiaomi claims up to 21 days of battery life with typical use.

The Smart Band 9 also looks the part. Its semi-matte aluminium frame comes in several colours, including Midnight Black, Glacier Silver, Arctic Blue, Mystic Rose and Titan Gray, although availability varies by region. It ships with a TPU strap, a material that feels like silicone but is noticeably tougher, and a simple one-button quick-release mechanism lets you swap it for a leather or metal strap in seconds. With an optional pendant accessory, you can even wear the band as a necklace.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active: light, slim and affordable

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active takes a different approach. Its wider, rectangular 1.47-inch screen can show more information at once, and the flat design keeps the body just 9.99 mm thick and 16.5 g without the strap, so you'll barely notice it on your wrist.

There are some compromises, though. Unlike the other two models, the Smart Band 9 Active uses a TFT LCD rather than an AMOLED display, so it isn't as bright or vibrant, and it offers 50 sports modes instead of more than 150. As a regular runner and occasional swimmer, I find that more than enough. Battery life is still excellent at up to 18 days.

You can personalise the band with flexible TPU straps in several colours and choose from more than 100 watch faces, or set your own photo as the background. If you want a lightweight, affordable band for tracking your workouts, the Smart Band 9 Active is a sensible choice.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro: for the most demanding users

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro is the premium model in the series. It has the largest display, a 1.74-inch AMOLED panel with up to 1,200 nits of brightness, protected by 2.5D reinforced glass. Combined with the aluminium frame, it looks more like an expensive smartwatch than a fitness band at first glance. It comes in black, silver and rose gold, and a quick-release mechanism makes changing straps easy.

The biggest advantage over the other two models is built-in GPS, with support for GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS, together with an electronic compass. That means you can track runs and bike rides accurately without carrying your phone. The Pro also recognises your running and swimming posture, and its Pro Running Mode measures cadence, ground contact time and vertical oscillation.

Battery life is impressive as well: up to 21 days of typical use, or around 8 days of heavy use. The bigger battery and sturdier case do add some weight, though, at 24.5 g without the strap. The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro is the most expensive model in the series, but built-in GPS and the larger, more readable display justify the price.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 vs 9 Active vs 9 Pro: which one should you choose?

Together, the three bands cover everything from basic activity tracking to more advanced sports features. If simplicity and a low price matter most, the standard Smart Band 9 is an excellent choice. If you want an even slimmer, lighter band and don't need advanced features, go for the Smart Band 9 Active. And if you want the most complete feature set, including GPS, in a stylish design you can wear every day, the Smart Band 9 Pro is the one to get.
